Dem witness tells House committee men can get pregnant, have abortions

A Democrat witness testifying prior to the Property Judiciary Committee on abortion rights Thursday declared that males can get pregnant and have abortions.

Aimee Arrambide, the executive director of the abortion rights nonprofit Avow Texas, was asked by Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., to define what “a girl is,” to which she responded, “I imagine that everyone can detect for them selves.”


“Do you believe that that guys can turn into pregnant and have abortions?” Bishop asked.

“Certainly,” Arrambide replied. 

The remarks from Arrambide followed a tense trade amongst Bishop and Dr. Yashica Robinson, an additional Democrat witness, following he in the same way requested her to determine “girl.”

“Dr. Robinson, I seen in your written testimony you claimed that you use she/her pronouns. You’re a medical medical doctor – what is a girl?” Bishop asked Robinson, an OBGYN and board member with Medical professionals for Reproductive Well being.

“I believe it can be vital that we educate people like you about why we are performing the items that we do,” Robinson responded. “And so the purpose that I use she and her pronouns is for the reason that I have an understanding of that there are men and women who develop into expecting that may possibly not determine that way. And I feel it is discriminatory to communicate to folks or to simply call them in such a way as they wish not to be called.”

“Are you likely to solution my question? Can you respond to the issue, what’s a woman?” Bishop requested.

“I’m a female, and I will check with you which pronouns do you use?” Robinson replied. “If you explain to me that you use she and her pronouns … I’m likely to respect you for how you want me to deal with you.”

“So you gave me an example of a lady, you say that you are a female, can you inform me normally what a lady is?” Bishop requested.

“Certainly, I am telling you, I’m a lady,” Robinson responded.

“Is that as thorough a definition as you can give me?” Bishop questioned.

“That’s as thorough a definition as I will give you nowadays,” Robinson claimed. “For the reason that I feel that it can be important that we aim on what we are right here for, and it’s to communicate about entry to abortion.”

Wednesday’s hearing, titled, “Revoking your Legal rights,” tackled the threat to abortion rights right after the leaked Supreme Courtroom draft opinion signaled the higher court docket is poised to before long strike down Roe v. Wade.
